Cookie policy
What Syndication Breakdown stores in your browser, what it does not, and how to change your choice at any time.
Last revised
This page describes the cookies and similar browser storage this site uses. It is written to match what the code actually does; if you find a discrepancy, that is a defect and reporting it is welcome.
The short version¶
Nothing that identifies you is stored unless you agree to it. Until you make a choice, the only things written to your browser are the record of that choice itself and, if you use it, your theme preference. Advertising and analytics storage begin denied and stay denied until you say otherwise.
What is stored, and when¶
| Name | Type | Set when | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|---|
sb_consent.v1 | Local storage | You choose accept or reject | Records your consent choice so you are not asked again | Until you clear it |
sb_theme | Local storage | You use the theme control | Remembers light, dark or automatic | Until you clear it |
| Google Analytics 4 | Cookies | Only after you accept | Aggregate audience measurement | Set by Google; see their documentation |
| Google AdSense and partners | Cookies and similar | Only after you accept, and only once advertising is enabled | Serving and measuring ads, frequency capping, fraud prevention | Set by Google and its partners |
Neither of the first two contains anything about you. The consent entry holds one of three words, and the theme entry holds one of two.
What is not used¶
No cookie for advertising or analytics is set before consent. There is no fingerprinting, no session recording, no heat mapping, no A/B testing tool, no chat widget, no social media embed, and no third-party tag manager.
Fonts are served from this site's own domain rather than a font network, so loading a page does not disclose your address to a font provider before you have read a word. Every page on this site can be read completely with JavaScript disabled.
Advertising is not switched on yet¶
This site is not currently serving advertising, and while that is the case no advertising script is loaded and no advertising cookie is set, whatever you choose in the banner. When advertising is enabled, consent for readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom will be collected through a Google-certified consent management platform under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework, and this page will be updated to describe it before that happens.
Changing your mind¶
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. It reopens the choice and applies the new answer immediately.
You can also delete this site's storage in your browser's settings, which resets everything and causes the banner to appear again on your next visit.
Global Privacy Control¶
If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, this site detects it and treats it as a standing opt-out of non-essential storage. Non-essential cookies stay denied, and you are not shown the consent banner at all, because you have already answered. This is described further under US State Privacy in the privacy policy.
Blocking cookies entirely¶
Every browser can block or delete cookies; the setting is usually under Privacy. Blocking everything will not break this site. The consent banner will reappear on each visit, because the record of your choice is itself something the site is no longer permitted to store.
